Outlander Discovery Tour

Step Into the World of Your Favourite Stories: Discover Your Own Fairy Tale in Scotland's Cinematic Landscapes

Example Itinenary

Day One:

At 0830 your private guide will collect you from your accommodation in Glasgow or Edinburgh. You will make your way to your first stop at Midhope Castle, Jamie’s family home in the series which is more commonly known as Lallybroch. Upon arrival, you'll be captivated by the castle's exterior, which exudes an air of mystery and grandeur. As you explore the grounds, your senses will be invigorated by the picturesque surroundings, providing the perfect backdrop for countless memorable photographs.

Prepare to be awestruck as you continue your journey to the formidable Blackness Castle, a true testament to medieval architecture. This imposing stronghold, which served as the iconic Fort William in the series, will leave you breathless with its commanding presence and rich historical significance. Step inside and immerse yourself in the very setting where Jamie endured the harrowing lashes inflicted by the notorious Captain Randall.

As we move through the tour, you can also visit Linlithgow Palace. As well as being used as the infamous Wentworth Prison in Outlander, this is also the birthplace of many Scottish Royals including Mary Queen of Scots.

Next up is the seaside village of Culross. You might recognize this town as the backdrop for Cranesmuir in season 1 of a popular series. During the filming, much of the town was transformed with a dark grey colour, but it has since returned to its original white. However, the picturesque beauty of this place remains unmistakable. In fact, the abundance of stunning buildings here made it a sought-after location once again for season 4.

Travel further north to reach Falkland which was used as the Outlander version of Inverness. Falkland is a quiet, friendly town on the edge of some fantastic Scottish scenery. You can drive into town and park on High Street across from Mrs Baird’s B & B (the real life Covenanter Hotel).

At the end of the day you will reach the small town of Pitlochry, known for its picturesque setting and charming atmosphere, and where you will spend the night.

Day Two:

Today you will travel up to Inverness for plenty more Outlander locations to see!

On your way up to Inverness, you can stop off at Loch Ness. This tranquil location has many connections to Outlander. Make sure to be on the lookout for monsters lurking in the water whilst you visit!

Next up is Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre. Immerse yourself in the rich history of Scotland as you explore the grounds where a pivotal battle took place, forever altering the course of the nation. Gain a profound understanding of the battle that ignited a fierce conflict between clans and left an indelible mark on Scottish society. Delve into an engaging and interactive experience that brings this historic event to life.

You can also visit Clava Cairns which is an ancient burial site near Inverness, and popular among Outlander fans due to its resemblance to Craigh na Dun. This site features well-preserved Bronze Age cairns and standing stones. The mysterious and atmospheric ambiance of Clava Cairns is undoubtedly reminiscent of the Outlander series.

Spend the night in Inverness.

Day Three:

Today you will journey back south to Edinburgh or Glasgow. Stop off first at Fort Augustus, a picturesque village located at the southern end of Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands.

As we journey southward, prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking beauty of Glencoe. This awe-inspiring landscape, prominently showcased in the opening credits of Outlander, will leave you spellbound. Marvel at the majestic mountains, rugged terrain, and sweeping vistas that have served as a backdrop for countless tales of adventure and romance.

Continuing your extraordinary adventure, you will journey to Doune Castle, a true gem among Scotland's medieval castles. Prepare to be transported back in time as we explore the magnificent fortress that served as the illustrious Castle Leoch, the ancestral seat of Clan Mackenzie, in the Outlander series. As you explore the castle's nooks and crannies, you'll discover the very rooms where the characters of Outlander came to life. Picture yourself in the Great Hall, where grand banquets and important gatherings took place. Stand in the courtyard, where the bustling life of Castle Leoch unfolded on screen.

Our journey concludes as we drop you off at your accommodation in Edinburgh or Glasgow, leaving you with unforgettable Outlander memories.

Absolutely MAGIC!!!

Steven and his Dad, George, were very friendly and accommodating. George was very knowledgeable as was Steven. I would highly recommend Lindsays Highland tours to anyone who wants to leave the driving to someone else and enjoy the beauty of the Highlands.
